Dealer Versus Private Seller

When you are planning on purchasing a Toyota Cresta or one of the nice Toyota Ipsum vehicles, you may need to decide whether or not it is better to buy one from a dealer that has it on their lot as compared to buying it from a private seller looking to unload the car.  Buying a car is stressful in the first place and when you are under this kind of stress it can be hard finding the right car at the right price, especially if you are not car savvy in the first place.

Every car is different and it is hard to know if you are getting a good deal or not.  This is very important when you are buying the Toyota Cresta or second hand cars from a private seller.  For most car buyers, it is actually easier and safer to buy the car from a dealership instead of from a private seller, even if the dealership is a used car one.  Dealerships of all types are regulated by the government and federal acts that have been put into place to protect consumers, such as the Motor Vehicles Dealers Act, the Consumer Guarantees Act, and the Fair Trading Act.  These acts make sure that the quality of the vehicle is sold based on a fair price based on its condition.

Dealerships also have to make sure the cars title is good.  That means it should be free from all liens that were once held on it.  When you buy a car from private sellers, you do not have this guarantee.  Dealers also have to provide you with basic information about the cars history.  This information includes the names of the previous owners, when the car was originally registered, and if the odometer reading is correct.  You cannot get the same reassurance from private sellers, because as much as we do not want to judge others there are simply some dishonest people out there.

If you are going to buy a car from a private seller notate the cars identification number and run a CarFax or other vehicle history report before you make any form of commitment to buy the car.  This will assure you that the car has not been in any accident the seller does not tell you about.  If you are still not sure about purchasing the car from a private seller, then do not.  It would be better for you to go through a dealership instead.
